The Academy Chamber Orchestra (ACO) is the premier Youth Chamber Orchestra in the Pacific Northwest. Our musicians have won numerous awards and honors on their respective instruments. Graduates from ACO have gone on to attend the Curtis Institute, The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman, The Cleveland Institute, the Peabody Conservatory, Harvard, Rice, etc.
The Academy Chamber Orchestra provides an opportunity for our musicians to read and perform concerto repertoire with the orchestra. As a result of this valuable experience, many of our students are selected to perform concertos with major orchestras in the Pacific Northwest. In addition, ACO premiers many new compositions, some by our own students, and performs World Music from many cultures that are not included in the European classical tradition.
In our first season, Michael Shrieve, drummer for the group Santana, auditioned many ensembles throughout the Northwest for a special presentation at the Moore Theater. The Academy Chamber Orchestra was the only classical ensemble chosen for this honor and was presented as the opening performing group. ACO has performed live on Classic KING FM, on KUOW FM, and at Cultural Events throughout the Pacific Northwest.
